WELCOME

Working with families to nurture and enhance relationships

How I can help

Hi, my name is Courtney Hastings. I am a Registered Social Worker in Hawkes Bay with whakapapa to Ngāti Kahungunu. I am trained in Non-Violence Resistance by Connective Family and Circle of Security Parenting by Circle of Security International with experience in Child and Adolescent Mental Health.

I believe in creating an environment that supports and empowers families to reach their full potential through practical skills and individualised plans. My mission is to support parents and caregivers to nurture better relationships with their tamariki.

I am passionate about working alongside families using a strengths-based approach - whether it is managing challenging behaviours, wanting to understand your child better, enhancing relationships, or adding more tools to your kete; I am here to help.

Non-Violence Resistance (NVR) is a relationship-based therapeutic parenting approach which has been widely established in the UK. NVR strengthens and enhances the parent-child relationship while providing practical skills to caregivers and parents to challenge and manage difficult behaviours. Currently, Awhi Care and Connect is the only provider of this service in New Zealand.

Learning Objectives of the programme:

  • empowering the parent/caregiver

  • understanding and prioritising behaviours

  • de-escalation strategies

  • repairing and reconnecting after challenging behaviours

  • enhancing the parent-child relationship

  • identifying supports and the community around you

  • announcement and sit in for continued escalation

NVR focusses on co-regulation through connection rather than managing behaviours through discipline. NVR believes that long-lasting change occurs when we change the way that we interact and respond to our children.

This approach takes into consideration attachment, trauma, neurodiversity, and sensory sensitivities.

NVR will be offered one-on-one via telehealth with 8 x 60 minute sessions for parents/caregivers

Best suited ages for children: 5-18

Weekly handouts provided

Cost: $600 (incl GST) per family
